Great ride last night up Mill Mountain! It's always intimidating to take on the mountain, but nothing beats that rewarding feeling of accomplishment. I’ll admit, being the only gal got my heart racing at first, but I held my own and loved every minute of it. This ride reminded me once again—when I can't, God can. 9/11 brings up so many emotions for all of us. My husband, a 27-year veteran and retired full colonel, said, 'Today drove home what it meant for me to fight for our country. What it means to sacrifice for our country.' He was working 60 hours a week as a urologist while also serving as the National Guard State Surgeon for Virginia, getting recruits ready to go to war. He is my hero.

We can get so caught up in our goals that we forge

We can get so caught up in our goals that we forget to enjoy the moment. Do you take time to appreciate God's creation around you? I encourage the people I coach to look up and enjoy life, even when focused on their training. Today, a dear friend and athlete, who is training for a 10-mile swim, pushed through 3.5 hours in the water. To surprise her, I arranged for an ice cream boat to stop by and share some treats. Despite her intense focus, she paused to enjoy the moment. I’m so proud of her for remembering to embrace the journey. Life is about balance—working hard while still finding joy along the way.
