“Defying Fear: Finding the Courage to Embrace Your True Value” is a fictional story, inspired by a compilation of true events, that will inspire people to defy fear in their own lives by embracing their true value through a focus on spiritual, emotional, and physical practices.

From the outside, Lila Frost seems to have it all together: she is smart, educated, and accomplished. But behind closed doors, she endures consistent abuse from her husband, although she doesn’t fully recognize that abuse is part of her story. Anxiety and fear are unwelcome familiars in Lila’s daily life. For years, she believes the lies as well as the blatant and veiled threats her husband continually throws at her.

But as Lila rekindles her faith, with the support of friends, she learns to defy her fear, take courageous steps, and embrace her own value. The question is, can she sustain her newfound transformation, or will old patterns once again drive her into a pit of depression and despair? Lila’s future depends on one thing: choosing courage and acting in faith, again and again.

Everyday Heroes--from a chef to a server to an audio tech to a rock wall attendant to the cruise ship entertainment staff. The true heroes are the ones behind the scene. Here are few that I have met over the last few weeks. I love to connect with people around, especially those who are behind the scenes. The people who are just doing their jobs sometimes have the best stories to tell. I always try to show gratitude for the work they are doing, because if it weren’t for them nothing would happen.

I have to be honest with you all… I hate heights

I have to be honest with you all… I hate heights. But recently my son convinced me to go rock climbing with him. It was all good until I had to let go at the top. Defying Fear, like my book. We have to rely on our faith in God to have a true relationship with Him, just like I had to have faith that when I let go at the top that the rope would hold me. We have to turn over our complete control and trust that God will lead us and protect us.

August has been such a full and flourishing month, and one of the highlights was my time at the Christian Product Expo (CPE) in Lexington, KY!

I am taking a moment to fully reflect on last weekend! August 19 and 20, I took on the "Hawksbill Double" in Luray, VA, completing both the Olympic and Sprint Triathlons individually. The Olympic triathlon on Saturday included a one-mile swim, 25.4 mile bike ride, and 10k (6.2 miles) run, followed by a Sprint triathlon on Sunday, which was a half-mile swim, 16.7-mile bike ride, and 5k (3.1 miles) run.

Sometimes courage looks like running when you don’t feel like getting out of bed or learning to swim in your 50s. Some days its having a hard conversation or making a major change. But you’ll find that those little steps of everyday courage prepare you for the big day and you’ll be more than ready to face what’s in front of you.
